Reymond Ketley, Age 21

Private, 877, 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.

Raymond was the son of Francis William and Clare Ketley of the Queens Arms, the Finger Dawley.

He had been educated at the Newport (Adams) Grammar School and had gone on to serve an apprenticeship with Messrs. J L & E T Morgan, Drapers of Wellington. On completion of his training he had gone to work for Messrs. Yarnold & Yarnold, Drapers of West Bromwich. Raymond was still with this company when he enlisted on September 17th 1914.

Raymond was to become another casualty of the Battle of the Somme, falling in action on the second day of the battle (2nd July 1916). His body was found and buried in the Gordon Dump Cemetery but at some point, his grave was lost and now a special memorial marks his name within the cemetery.
